"It is a gross misconception that a competitive bidding process will result in the best parking equipment for the best price."

- Van Stokes, Sr. President, Stokes Industries, Inc.

There are a lot of parking experts, but very few that have ever worked on mechanical parking systems. A mechanical parking system can save you a lot of money, but it needs to be designed the same way a concrete garage is designed. The garage designer must take into account the proposed usage, the limitations and restrictions of the surroundings, and he must design the best structure and mechanical systems possible for these conditions. Mechanical garages come in such a variety of shapes, sizes and functionality that it would be impossible to describe them all to you. Don't make a mistake of lumping all mechanical garages together. There are, as with anything, good designs and bad designs.

Proper system selection is the most important phase of design. Just as you would not order a new office building or apartment complex by number from a catalogue, mechanical parking systems are each unique. An experienced mechanical parking system designer should be consulted as early as possible. In most cases the selection of the proper system and small changes in the schematic design phase will result in significant cost savings in the overall project. Do not limit yourself to a few designs offered by an equipment manufacturer in a brochure. They are not built to your unique requirements.
