There are two basic classifications of mechanical parking systems, the Valet or Attendant Systems and the Self-Park or Automated Systems.
- Valet Park systems require some person to move the cars at ground level so the other cars can be raised or lowered.
- The Self-Park systems do this automatically without any human intervention.
- A Hybrid approach is an automated system (self-park) that uses a Valet to park and retreive vehicles from the parking machine.
