Parking Terminology

A list of terms used in the mechanical parking industry.


A

Attendant

A person who assists parking patrons. This person usually handles finanical transactions and may also valet.


L

Lifter, Lifters

Usually represents a valet type mechanical parking system. See also stacker.


M

Mole

see Transporter.


P

Pallet

See platform.

Parking Level

A vertical parking plane (level, floor, etc) in where one or more parking spaces reside.

Parking Space

A specific volume of space in where a vehicle may be stored.

Platform

A small, low, portable device on which vehicles are placed for raising, lowering, and sliding for storage. A platform represents a portable mechanical parking space.


R

Rack, Rack System

The structural framework that holds up a platform. A rack system represents a parking level


S

Self Park

The means by which a parking patron may store and retrieve their vehicle from a mechanical parking space without the assistance of a parking valet or attendant.

Space

See parking space.

Stacker, Stackers

Usually represents a valet type mechanical parking system. See also lifter.


T

Transporter

The mechanical device of a self-park (automated) parking system that is responsible for moving platforms.This device may move horizontially and/or vertically.
Sometimes refered to as: elevator, mole.


V

Valet

A person who parks vehicles. See also attendant.
